How do you express your emotion?
Expressing emotion is not something many people are comfortable with or in control of. This is something that many people haven’t been taught how to do. Learning how to express their emotions in a way that doesn’t hurt yourself or others is so important to understand. Imagine a full cup of water. This represents your emotions, ie sadness, anger, frustration. When something presses your buttons, you react and this cup can overflow. Usually uncontrollably.
I remember going on my first emotional boot camp 12 years ago when I trained in emotional coaching. I learnt how to get in touch with my anger and my sadness, releasing years of pent up frustration, resistance and sorrow. Learning how to respond rather than react, as I was “emptying my cup” in a proactive way.
I have helped countless people with this and continue to do the same for myself.
I found a great way to release anger for myself was in the gym/boxing and the sadness watching a teary movie. I remember a trip that I took to Canada a few years back – the flight would be a time that I spent reflecting, studying, writing, and releasing. I was so ‘activated when I watched the movie “A star was born” with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Such beauty, love and sorrow all rolled into one. I was overcome with sadness watching this, so much so the people in front of me called the air hosts to check that I was ok . I know that what I was doing was just releasing emotion. I didn’t need to know all the stories, experiences behind my sadness, I was just able to release it openly.
The more that you can understand your emotions and release what is not serving you. The more you can let go of your past and create your future.
Nothing is more important than feeling good. What emotions do you want to release and what would you like to replace them with?
Think about this as you are moving from 2022 to 2023. What word/emotion would you like to let go of for 2022 and what word/emotion would you like to experience more of 2023 and beyond?
Have a wonderful week ahead!
