Autobiography in five short chapters – Portia Nelson
“I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost… I am helpless. It isn’t my fault. It takes forever to find a way out.
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it . I fall in again. I cant believe I am in the same place. But, it isn’t my fault. It still takes me a long time to get out.
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in. It’s a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately.
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.
I walk down another street.”
This is a great example of what it is like to shift your paradigm. Here is another example. Bob shared this at the paradigm shift that I have been watching live stream over the weekend. Take your pen in your normal writing hand and write your name. Then swap the pen into your other hand. Write your name again. Now do this over and over for about 20 times. Listen to the thoughts in your head. Your paradigm will be telling you this is silly, its illogical, what a waste of time. Be aware of what it feels like when you are writing, Its uncomfortable isn’t it? This is what it is like changing your paradigm. Watch your level of concentration too. You are using way more focus and conscious thinking on the movement of your hand as you write. You don’t want to do it and want to change back to your normal writing hand. You are programmed to write with that hand. This is exactly how your paradigm is working around your finances, your health, your relationships, your productivity, your use of time , your effectiveness, your logic.
When you start to change your paradigm it is tough, its difficult it is hard. . Bob shared a great example that he was having a drink at a bar and had a look around and realized that everybody sitting around him was a bum, He said to himself” if they are all bums then I must be a bum “ He walked out of the bar and never drank again in his life. BUT he walked right across the street and started betting on the horses!!! The universe abhors a vacuum ( this means when you remove something, something will be put in its place). If you are changing paradigms, make sure you are replacing a bad habit with a good habit.
